WORKSHOP:

INTRODUCTION TO MINDFULNESS

“Mindfulness is awareness that arises through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgementally,” says Kabat-Zinn. “And then I sometimes add, in the service of self-understanding and wisdom.”

It can be easy to rush through life without stopping to notice much. Paying more attention to the present moment, to your own thoughts and feelings, and to the world around you can improve your mental wellbeing.

The practice of Mindfulness helps us to pay attention to the present moment without judgement, using techniques to encourage a mindful way of life so that instead of being overwhelmed by thoughts and emotions we pay attention in the moment to ensure we’re better able to stay focused, energized, and calm.

Through cultivating mindful awareness, we discover how to live each day in a ‘being’ way rather than brooding about the past or becoming anxious about the future.

This 1/2-day introduction to mindfulness will combine meditation exercises with an overview of the theory behind how the practice leads to real and sustainable change.

There is an ever-growing body of empirical evidence showing that mindfulness can help us self-regulate our moods and thoughts, become more resilient in the face of stress and challenges, make us more productive and effective, and restore a sense of calm and balance to our lives.

This 1/2-day workshop will help you understand how these changes come about and how you can incorporate a mindfulness practice in your own life. It’s also an opportunity to relax and reconnect.

Benefits of Mindfulness:

  • Reduced stress, anxiety and depression

  • Improved relationships

  • Improved motivation and retention

  • Increased performance

  • Increased focus and attention

  • State of calm and ability to work through challenges

  • Improved creativity, innovation and thought

You will leave with a clearer understanding of:

  • How to connect to the present moment more effectively

  • How to incorporate mindfulness into everyday activities

  • What mindfulness is and how it can be trained

  • Insight into the science of how it changes not only our minds, but also our brains

  • How you can respond more effectively to stress and break the stress-reaction cycle that keeps us locked in old habits and unsustainable states

  • Practical tools to incorporate mindfulness into your everyday life and activities

The scientific evidence for the benefits of mindfulness meditation is well established. This introductory workshop is a great opportunity to experience what mindfulness is all about, and to begin enjoying the benefits!

Objectives of this workshop:

By the end of this workshop you will be able to describe the fundamentals of Mindfulness before learning and taking your practice to a more earnest level. You will learn how to practice ‘being in the moment’ and the blockages we can have that keep us from this desired state. You will learn a level of self-awareness to identify how basic Mindfulness techniques will help you deal with barriers to a mindful life and allow you to focus yourself in a positive way when faced with stressful situations and unhelpful thoughts and mind-sets.
